I don’t like to write characters that are irrefutably villains. Characters who do evil because they think they’re right, written by a creator who can get inside their head and understands where they’re coming from, are far more interesting. But if there’s a villain in the making of this movie…
It’s Final Cut Express.
Yes, the software I’m using to composite and edit the movie. Twice now, this evil piece of software has randomly decided that it’s own files (files that contain the movie) are unreadable. And nothing I do can convince the program to open the files again. They’re gone. Final cut has eaten my work. And what’s worse, I don’t even know why. I can’t get inside this villain’s head, because it doesn’t have one. It’s bits and bytes. And it’s forcing me to do the same work over and over, like I’m in an even worse version of Groundhog Day.
